10/3 Class Scene Exercise

Last Friday afternoon, Georgia decided to stop at 7-Eleven before she went into work; she was doing a double that day. On days like these, she needs a coffee and some snacks to keep her going. As she walks through the door of the 7-Eleven, the first thing he notices is the long line. Georgia immediately gets frustrated, especially since the normal cashier Jada isn’t there. “They’re working so slow today”, she said to herself; “Im gonna be late for work”. To her surprise, as Georgia turned around, she made eye contact with her supervisor and arch-nemesis Sweetness. She quickly turned back around hoping that Sweetness didn’t see her, but of course she did. “Hey Georgia”, said Sweetness. “Is this why you come to work late?”, she continued. “No”, replied Georgia. – “What are you even doing here anyway? I thought you don’t drink coffee.” Sweetness chuckled and responded “You do know that’s not the only thing they sell right? Well ofcourse you do, you’re always in here”. What the two of them did not realize was that while they were sophisticatedly hashing it out with eachother, everyone ahead of them in line, had already gone up. “Nextttt !! My God can yall pay attention and shutup”, said Lien the cashier. “How dare you? Watch your mouth.”, said Sweetness. “Yea, what she said”, Georgia chimed in. “Listen, are yall gonna tell me what you want or no? There’s other people behind yall”, yelled Lien.

Setting Prompt

Just a regular day on the four train; or so I thought. The campus is between Bedford Park  and Kingsbridge Road train stations. My Monday classes however, are closer to Kingsbridge than Bedford. So as you can imagine, I’d get off there. Today, Id never wish I’d been further from somewhere in my life. As we pulled into the station, I heard a loud thump. “Did somebody drop a large item on the track?”, “Did somebody jump in front of the train?”, “Did someone fall in front of the train?”; All these questions raced through my mind as we awaited an announcement over the loud speaker. As everyone rushed off the train, I heard a woman yelling “one creep at a time  mamacita”. Who/What is she talking about? Looking over my shoulder, I saw a little girl creeping out slowly from under the train, and two men helping her come out safely. I found out that a man had jumped in front of train 4187 with his daughter. I’ve never hated Kingsbridge more than today.

Imagery Prompt

Snowy days are her favorite. As the fresh snow falls outside, her eyes track every atom of snow from the sky to the ground. Her oily forehead smudges the window as she leans on it mesmerized by the snow. How can one person love a season so much? She watched through the window for so long its as though the snow was calling her name. Looking frantically for her boots, all her brain thought about was her reaching outside before the snow stopped falling. At once; she found them. Never had I seen someone put shoes on so quickly. Those are her favorite boots; they would be mine too, if I was her. the smooth suede texture make them to die for; its like rubbing your hand across heaven. The brown bow sits perfectly on the back of them smack dab in the middle of each boot; screaming “look at me; I’m pretty and I bounce”. She gallops down the stairs an onto the porch. As she steps her right foot off the porch, to head to the two last steps that await her, she gets the landing she didn’t see coming. Her left foot fails her and slides briskly off the porch and under her. She gets up, breathes in the moist air and slowly proffers her tongue outward trying to catch as many snow flakes as she can. At last, she is in her own winter wonderland.

Prompt #2 hw

As she stumbled through what felt to be a doorway, the stench of joop cologne lingered in the air. Through her blurred peripheral, she notices a tall, brooding shadow, just feet away from her. In her panic, she trips over a box, and lands on a futon.  As she desperately tries to catch her breath but to not breathe too loud, thoughts of survival or lack there of swarm through her head.
