Dialogue

Naisha storms into Sofia’s bedroom as she is on the phone with someone.

Naisha: We need to talk.

Startled by Naisha’s abrupt appearance, Sofia hangs up the phone. Naisha takes a sit on her bed.

Sofia: What now Naisha?

Naisha: I…..I can’t do this anymore.

Sofia: Do what? What is it now?

Naisha: We can’t be friends anymore.

Sofia: Wh-what? What do you mean? Where is this coming from?

Naisha: I know Sof.

Sofia: Know what?

Naisha: About him. About the guy you’re falling for.

Sofia feels her heart drop.

Sofia: How? I mean who told you that? Did you look through my phone again? What is wrong with you?

Naisha: No Sof. I’ve just noticed it and put two and two together. You’ve been so sneaky with your phone, you barely make time for me, I can tell things are just…different.

Sofia: I’m so sorry Naisha. I love you with all my heart. You know that. I thought it wouldn’t bother you. I didn’t mean to hurt you Naisha I swear.

Naisha: Well you did and you know how much I love you.

Sofia attempts to hug Naisha but she stands up.

Naisha: I’m sorry Sof. It’s time I put myself first.

Sofia: No Naisha stop. Please don’t do this. We can fix this.

Naisha goes to kiss Sofia’s forehead, opens the door, and leaves.

Setting

“Don’t fall asleep. Don’t fall asleep. Do.Not.Fall.Asleep.”

Let me just get up. I open my eyes to the view of several pelvic and stomach areas…how lovely. I need to get up. There are too many people I feel like I’m about to faint. It’s so congested. It feels like Times Square on New Year’s Eve. I’m being smushed, in between a guy that clearly was raised on a farm and has no proper etiquette as he sits with his legs wide open, and then a woman that smells as though she’s bathed in Victoria Secret perfume. Ugh I’m so naseuous. I try to put my head down and “woosah” my nerves. Inhale and exhale. That’s all I’m focusing on.

“You’ll leave soon. You’re getting off soon. Don’t worry, you can do this.”

Suddenly, my whole body jolts right into Mr. LegsWideOpen as Ms. Victoria Secrets’ elbow nudges into my stomach to stop herself from falling on top of me. I pick my head up and see faces of despair as we call come to a sudden stop.

“You’ve gotta be kidding me. Where the heck are we at?”

Imagery

Hey sis,

I know you’re pretty busy with college and all so I’m assuming that’s why you haven’t written back. Anyways, just wanted to tell you all about my trip to grandma’s new house. Once I stepped foot outside I immediately felt the sun rays beam on my skin. It felt so warm and fuzzy like the velvet plush blankets we have back at home. But girl, after 2 seconds I started to feel the sweat droplets form above my upper lip. Anywho, grandma picks me up from the airport and as we make our way back to her house, I notice the palm trees swaying and what seems like a neverending highway; then I see a sign that points to the direction of Disney World and I get so excited. So we reach the house, finally, and once I open the front door the smell of freshly cooked arroz con pollo fills my nostrils and my stomach started doing flips like the dolphins at Seaworld. I missed grandma’s cooking so much I know you do too. It’s a lot better than eating cup of noodles for dinner almost every night. Btw, grandma says that she misses you and hopes you visit soon. Omg then after dinner we go lay on her couch, yes she still keeps the clear plastic cover on it, the sound is super annoying like when that one person crumbles their paper so loudly the whole class turns. Yeah anyways, she starts to run her fingers through my hair and I can feel her long acrylic nails scratch all throughout my scalp omg the best. Then she starts to take all the knots out of my hair, this Florida humidity is not it sis. I know you would complain about it 24/7. So I ended up falling asleep on the couch and it was actually peaceful. No ambulance or police sirens, loud obnoxious people, or motorcycles roaring throughout the neighborhood. I’m not used to the silence but I can get used to it. I really wish you were here sis. Your family misses you. We’re also really proud of you. Love you! Talk soon. Hopefully..

Love,

Your little sis
